A diagnostic tool connected to a car in the Z-Garage workshop

Car diagnostics and warning lights near Lake Garda

A warning light on the dashboard is worrying, especially far from home. In our workshop in Solferino we connect a diagnostic tool to the car, read the fault codes stored in the control units and then check the car itself.

A fault code is a clue, not a verdict. We compare it with the symptoms and the parts involved, so you know what is really wrong before you spend money on a repair.

Red light or yellow light?

As a rule, a red warning light means stop as soon as it is safe to do so and do not carry on driving. A yellow or amber light means the car needs checking soon, but you can usually get to a workshop carefully.

If you are not sure, send us a photo of the dashboard on WhatsApp with the car model. We will tell you whether it is better to come in or to wait.

Why a code alone is not enough

The same code can have different causes. Clearing it and hoping is not a repair: we look at the part the code points to, the wiring and the symptoms you describe, and only then tell you what needs doing and what it costs.

When the light goes out on its own

A warning light that switches itself off has not necessarily solved the problem. The fault stays stored in the control unit and the light can come back. It is worth having it read, especially before a long drive home.

Questions about diagnostics

Which cars can you check?

We work on the main car and van brands. Message us the make and model and we will confirm before you come.

How long does a diagnostic check take?

Reading the codes is usually quick. If a deeper check is needed, we tell you how long it will take before we start.

Can I keep driving with the engine light on?

With a red light, no: stop when it is safe. With a yellow light you can usually drive carefully to the workshop, but do not ignore it for long.

Do I need to book?

Yes, we work by appointment. Call +39 329 974 4445 or write on WhatsApp in English and we will find a slot.
