Winter tyres in Lombardy
In Lombardy, many roads require winter tyres or snow chains on board from 15 November to 15 April. If you are driving here in that period, check your tyres before you set off.
In autumn and spring the seasonal change is our busiest time, so it is worth booking early.
When to replace a tyre
The legal minimum tread depth is 1.6 mm, but below about 3 mm grip on wet roads gets noticeably worse. Age matters too: an old tyre with cracks on the sidewall should be replaced even if the tread looks fine.
If a tyre is wearing more on one side than the other, the cause may be wheel alignment or the wrong pressure. We point it out so you can fix the cause, not just the tyre.
